2010 Season Overview

Welcome to Complete Works Theatre Company’s 2010 education program.

This year year heralds an extension of our VCE program by introducing an abriged version of Louis Nowra's Cosi, a new program for students studying the context Encountering Conflict with scenes from The Crucible and comparisons to The Secret River and three new classic texts to the Literature workshop series. The hugely successful A Man For All Seasons will be remounted at selected venues and our in-schools touring team will continue to entertain and educate with the ever popular Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth and the poetry show, The Word Superb.

While the presentation of William Shakespeare's plays will always remain a major component of our work, we endeavour, where possible, to satisfy teacher requests to develop and present new programs. The diversity and scope of texts being studied at VCE level doesn't allow us to fulfill every request but we have scheduled a new program that will explore Arthur Miller's The Crucible with reference Kate Grenville's The Secret River to support VCE Units 3 & 4, Creating and Presenting, in the context of Encountering Conflict. Launching in August, 2010 a new company of four actors and educators will present this program in repertory with Nowra's hilarious and moving modern Australian classic Cosi.

The Literature workshop series introduced in 2009 proved to be an incredibly valuable accompaniment to the teaching of selected texts. In 2010, we move beyond the irresistible world of Shakespeare in include Hedda Gabler, Antigone and The Freedom of the City.

What strikes me about the works CWTC will present in 2010 is the depth to which they all explore the human experience in all its startling glory and how elements of each play are completely relevant to our own lives as we come to grips with the challenges of the extraordinary times in which we live.

I invite you to make a CWTC program part of student learning at your school.

I got a great visual understanding of the play so that now if a teacher talks about a specific part, I will be able to picture it.
